Lannaya’s activities are of exceedingly high artistic merit. Since 2000, Lannaya has consistently provided arts performances and arts education activities.
Lannaya successfully attracts diverse audiences specifically interested to support the best of African arts in Austin. Lannaya is booked with great frequency and has performed at several multicultural events in Austin for the past eight years, including Tapestry’s Espirt, the Children’s Museum’s International Children’s Festival, ArtLife Kenya, One World Theatre’s Kids Series, Violet Crown Festival, Festival Celebrating Youth, Cosmofest, On Your Feet at the Monarch Center, Austin City Limits Festival, First Night Austin, the Levitt Pavillion International Music Festival in Arlington, the International Music Festival in San Antonio, and numerous other benefits and special events.

Artistic Director/Master Drummer Alseny Sylla performs regularly locally and internationally, including events such as Tina Marsh’s Circle of Lights, and has accompanied West African dance classes at University of Texas at Austin, and McAllum Academy of Fine Arts. He is on faculty for Africa in the Ozarks camp intensive in Eureka Springs, Arkansas; he is a member of the world music ensemble Atash, and also teaches drum technique classes.
Drummers Alseny Sylla, Abu Sylla, and Owen Towles are facilitators/percussionists with Drum Café, an interactive, international drumming company.
Lannaya artists actively attend and/or lead clinics/intensive technique workshops.
